Factors to Consider Before Creating a Bestseller Webnovel

Updated: May 9, 2022

After reading my blogs and watching my videos, you might be inspired to start creating your next bestseller. However, you might want to halt it right there! Before you hit the publish button, here are some factors you need to consider before embarking on this journey.

#1 Commitment

The best selling books are not created overnight. Writing is not a talent, it is a passion and dedication.

Writing is like raising a child. You can't just abandon this halfway even if you're depressed and sick and dying. You need commitment and consistency to take a good idea to the next stage, as the best selling work.

Do you have the time and stubbornness to commit to this?

#2 Personal Advantages and Disadvantages

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” ― Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Don't just focus on what you have to offer. Take a look at what other writers have to offer and have created. You don't want to create something only to be overshadowed by someone else with a similar idea and a bigger fan pool.

Know what you have to offer and find out what everyone else is doing before you start working on your concept. It saves you time from redrafting, rewriting and saves you despair when you finally find out it isn't going to work.

Do you know the industry well enough to predict the reactions of your new bestseller work?

#3 Fan Service & Money Making

Not every reader who is a fan of your work will pay. The difference between a writer and a bestselling writer is in the income statement. Why would two writers of similar skills and ideas differ so much in financial success?

The answer is simple. One fulfils the reader's desire to read what they wish to read and the other doesn't. Both can tell a good story but the one who can hook a reader's hunger will get paid more.

What counts as fan service? Simple. Smut in a romance novel is fan service. Slice of life behind the scene character moments is considered fan service. Harem to an action-driven plot can be considered fan service.

It's time to find out how your readers would like to be rewarded so that they can part with their wallets. If you don't have the ability to write fan service, chances are, you might find yourself struggling against bigger players.

Can you create effective fan service content in the long run?

#4 Exit Strategy

Not everything we plan will go our way. It takes a man more than one attempt to get things right. It doesn't matter if you're a man, a woman, a child or a genius. Success isn't born overnight.

I have tried 99 times and have failed, but on the 100th time came success. -Albert Einstein

If you launched your work and it isn't giving you the desired responses, don't waste your time trying to repair the Titanic. Abort ship! Wrap it up as quickly as you can. You can think about a better idea later.

Don't let your feelings get better of you! A bestselling work is, after all, just another business investment of your time. If it doesn't sell, it isn't a best seller. Move on.

Can you cut your losses before it does you in?

If you answered yes to all four questions, you are ready to embark on this journey to the top.

That's all from me! Now that you know the trade secrets, it's time for you to start preparing for the uphill battle. Fight on word warrior!
